How can I locate a tutor or program which specializes in remediating nonverbal learning disorders? Most tutors seem to specialize in reading or math - my son’s disorder is called nld and no one seems to focus on this disorder. Thanks!

Where are you located? Here in DC I’ve just signed my NLD daughter (6th grade) up to work with an organizational tutor through the Kingsbury Center. They know NLD, and will have ideally matched her with a tutor that will understand her style.

We live on :Long Island, outside New York. How were you able to locate a program which worked with nvld kids? There doesn’t seem to be one around here - though perhaps I don’t know where to look. I would appreciate any advice you have to offer. Thanks - Bonnie
Well, it might help to define what he needs help in — organization, social skills, math skills, whatever — there are people that do work in those areas. NLDs are like LDs — there are lots of different kinds and some have ‘em worse than others. (Check out http://www.krooney.com/ for some organizational kinds of things — also http://www.thelearningstudio.com — the lady behind that site works a *lot* with NVLD folks.)
