i need help with this i was in the past a frequecnt visitor to this site… so hello to all who may remember me.

well i have a five year in first grade, well last year the teacher faild to identify issues, but then at the end of the year recommended retention. ok.

my child is now at a new school, we did not do the retention. we had sppech and language done on our child over the summer. speech and language testing showed she she did not need help in that area. i submitted this to the new school. now they have asked we all meet to discuss possibly the need for to conduct new testing/and or additional testing.

ok. do i ask the school why? meaning do they have fault with the testing in speech and language done over the summer.
also i have asked that i be able to choose a bias party to observe our child butthe school has written back and informed us that parents are not at liberty to do the choosing, that a member there fro mthe staff would be doing the observing is that correct, i have been told otherwise. i havbe to go right now, please help with this if you can, if this is not clear email me

thanks

Polly,

Obviously, the teacher is observing some sort of problem with your daughter. I can only guess that they think some testing that should have been done wasn’t. Usually schools don’t want to redo the same testing unless it shows a problem and they don’t think there is one. Speech and language testing is pretty broad and there are lots of types of tests so maybe there still is a speech and language problem that wasn’t detected last summer.

I know you had bad experiences with your previous school but perhaps these people really do want to help you.

Beth
