I just purchased the book Verbal Intelligence. Has anyone out there used the Language-Wise program with success? My son is finishing PACE this week. I am looking for the next piece of the puzzle. My son had a severe language disorder as a younger child. He still has immature language with difficulty with fluent storytelling, written expression, word retreival, troubles with memorization and working memory, processing speed, and fine-motor skills.
My son continues to work with an Academic Language Therapist 3x/week working 1/2 time on written expression and 1/2 time on Alphabetic Phonics.
I am looking into…
Language-Wise - language skills, reading and writing
Interactive Metronome - help with processing speed, attention, mental organization
NeuroNet - help with memory, word retrieval, sensory integration and coordination issues, attention
Vision Therapy - some struggles with saccadic eye movements, although neurologist did not recommentd. He is have some trouble with tracking exercises in PACE. I’d like a home program on the computer if available.
Program on Wordfinding - word retrieval
AIT - my son still easily distracted by noise, has extreme difficulty in noisy settings hearing and focusing. We used expensive easy listener at one point in the past. Light static in the unit was more distracting than helpful.
After our positive experience with PACE, I would consider Master the Code, except that our PACE tutor would not be able to come during school hours, and our Academic Language Therapist has an excellent rapport with our small private school and our son. She modifies the program to suit his needs. She is working with him on planning, organizing, and writing skills.
I’m looking for programs that will not be too intense right now, since we just finished PACE. I’d like things that I can do with my son at home with relative ease, or suggestions that the ALT can incorporate in to her therapy time. I am thinking that some of the Phono-Graphix or Language-Wise exercises be incorporated in to his therapy. Also, if there are programs that are more intense that you would suggest for next summer?
I’m open for suggestions… Thanks.
Rosie
