Ran into Peter Principal ....

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

in the grocery store late this afternoon. He looked extremely tired. It looked like I was last person he wanted to run into. I wonder, do you think us parents are getting to him?

There is no doubt you caught him with his guard down. Probably the only thought on his mind at the time of your chance encounter was “can’t wait to get home with this gallon of Gallo; I need my sedative. These damnable parents just won’t leave me alone. Oh my God! Here comes one now! Can’t drink from the gallon bottle in public. Where’s my flask when I need it?”

The fascade that is errected on school grounds, buttressed up by the joined forces, locking of arms and goose stepping to the tune of Battle Hymm of the Beaurocracy gives one the impression that they are impervious to parents.

Reality still dictates, there are way more of us than there are of them. I know this sounds soft, but when they are alone, out of their protective shell, they almost can make you feel sorry for them. Kind of like a molusk without any defenses. Of course, this whim of pity soon passes, as a flashback from an IEP battle or a chance encounter in a school hallway will wash over and you know better.

As always.

Were you driving when you ran into him or was it just a shopping cart…
