My 10 year old son is diagnosed gifted/nld. I have a question about writing. Is there such a thing as a written output disorder? He will write an “m” for “n” or say he is thinking one thing and writes another. His handwriting is generally messy, difficult to read, many misspellings, slow. His testing did not indicate dysgraphia but I am wondering if they did not look closely enough. If I request further testing, what should I ask for? Thanks for your help.

Re: written expression
Hey there, I have a son with NLD too. Just wanted to let you know about a wonderful book you should look at. It’s called “The Sourse for Non-Verbal Learning Disorders” by Sue Thompson. You can get it through the publisher “Linguisystems.” 1-800-776-4332. It’s a wonderful EASY TO UNDERSTAND, very parent friendly book. It’s really helped me out. It is expensive ($40.00) but well worth it. Just thought I’d pass on the info. Dawn
Lots of kids ahve trouble between their minds and their hands, with getting their ideas out there on the page. Go to “LD In DEpth” and look under “writing” — http://www.ldonline.org/ld_indepth/writing/writing.html —or do a search for “dysgraphia” on the internet, and you’ll find lots of good info.
