materials for organization

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am looking for websites that have organization materials to download, mainly visual organizers like compare and contrast charts and story web charts. Does anyone know I good place I could find something like that?

Do a search for “graphic organizers.”
http://muskingum.edu/%7Ecal/database/database.html has some good ones.

There is a software program known as “Inspiration” that includes graphic organizers for writing, so maybe you should look into that. I also use a number of “cognitive maps” that are helpful for organzing thinking before writing, among other things. I could probably send you a few samples, they are quite simple to use. One is I think far better for compare/contrast essays than the Venn Diagram, more flexible mainly. It’s called a “Double Bubble” map, and looks like two word webs hooked together. Basically you put two circles side by side, with some space in between, with the two things you are comparing in the circles. All the things that are in common go in between the two circles, with lines connecting them to both. The things that are different go on the outside of each circle. Then when you go to write, you can start either with how they are alike, or how each is different, and it’s all mapped out for you. Does that sound like what you are looking for? If so, email me and I’ll try to give you the rest that I know…
