Mary, I have seen your posts both here and on International Dyslexia Assn
bulletin board (I think it was) and have a lot of questions…actually too many for a bulletin board. My 7 year old daughter (second grade) has problems reading, we are in the middle of testing, both at school and private. She is very bright, but has little visual memory, and has to sound out so many words. Some reversals, gets vowel sounds mixed up, guesses at words, cannot self correct in reading, etc. Actually, a classic case of dyslexia!!We had comprehensive vision testing….no problems. We are starting on Reading Reflex and I have gotten Lindamood Bell Seeing Stars. Could you e-mail me and I can ask specific questions about LMB vs Audiblox, PACE ( have looked at the web site, but we aqctually can’t afford it) and other programs? How do I know if they are the right program for her…how long will it take before I can tell if it is working or not? Which program would be the best/easiest to get the school to give her? I could give you more specifics on her problems. We are meeting with the school to discuss her test results January 14, and I am explecting to get started on the IEP. I also need to know what to request as far as the IEP is concerned. I have ordered a book on IEPs, and am awaiting that, also.
She does just fine in the regular classroom, and I want her out as little as possible, but I do want her to have an OG based program. I know she will need accommodations and modifications, especially later when she will fall behind when trying to write what the teacher says, spelling, etc. Otherwise, in class, she is right along with her peers. I go to school alsmost every day to listen to her read, because she cannot self correct. She does Accelerated Reader books on tape when I can’t be there. We are trying Colored overlays, and everything else we can think of.
I am researching and printing out all kinds of info for the school, because they will have to get someone trained in a program specific for her needs. So far they are working with me, but we’ll see when we get the diagnosis of dyslexia. We had private testing done with a Neuropsychologist and we are awaiting the results.
Any kind of help would be appreciated by anyone!!! Connie
