SAT prep programs

I never heard of any SAT prep doing anything for dyslexics, but I used to work for on of the big SAT prep companies, and I’ll tell you what I know. Internally we knew that it was hard to raise verbal scores very much. The company bragged about gains in scores, but almost all of it was in the math section. The only way to signifigantly raise verbal scores is to study vocabulary lists. The trick to raising math scores is to plug in the answers, rather than trying to solve the questions. Start with the middle answer, then go up or down depending on whether you need a higher or lower number. You never have to plug in more than two.
The most important thing she can do to raise her scores is SLOW DOWN. The questions start easy and get harder as you go along in each section. The test doesn’t just test high school math. It tests 4th grade on up, but there are lots of tricky phrases, put in there just to trip you up. So spend lots of time reading and re-reading the easy questions VERY carefully. She should not do all the questions in any section. If you only do the first 2/3 of any section, then go back and check and double check, her scores will go up. Statistically, she should end up in the 500-550 range. Get a book of sample tests and try not doing more than the first 2/3 of any section (Kids resist this) but you’ll see that her scores will go up. Good luck.
