As you have all summized by now, I am in Ohio. I have posted two threads that should be of intrest to anyone who has a child with a disability in Ohio, I am wondering if there are enough people here, from Ohio, that I should continue to post state spicific information ?

I’m in Pickens, South Carolina, and although I’m not in Ohio I get alot of valuable information from all your knowledge.

Originally from Massachusetts, now in NH. Ohio, your information & knowledge has added alot of value for me. You come across with a strong backbone and confidence that is spurring me to learn more.

Ohio,

I am in Michigan. As we all read, we learn more about each state & it’s own policy and procedures . Although we are in different states, I think it is important to gather the knowledge of what is happening in the other states.

For instance, in MI at this time, an eligibility determination and the IEP are all set in one meeting. (Unless otherwise agreed upon by the participants.) However, at this time MI is undergoing some major renovations of the Special Education system and it looks like they will separate this one meeting into two different day - different team meetings.

Reading all the different inputs is what has made me more informed and ready to advocate. Without hearing and understanding how others are doing, I’m not sure I would be as good of an advocate. Besides, even though you may have others from Ohio - if like MI - different districts do things slightly different.

Keep the dialogue coming.
