Thought I’d share this site (www.puzzlemaker.com) with those of you who haven’t heard of it.
I hate those busy work assignments teachers give thinking your child will learn spelling if they make something fun like a crossword puzzle or a word search with the spelling words in it. (Pretty hopeless anyway, since my child couldn’t even spell “spelling” after writing it on the top of his papers practically every day for three years.) So then your kid has to spend three hours struggling to make the word game and they aren’t spending any time on spelling at all. This site takes the pain out of those assignments—you can make crossword puzzles (they call them Criss Cross) easily just by typing the word followed by your definition. Word searches are a breeze too and there are plenty of other puzzle types it can generate as well. Mazes, too.
Our son’s 5th grade teacher wouldn’t accept them (that’s a whole ‘nother story) but every other teacher has and it really saves a lot of work. We just used it last night for a high school assignment. (Yikes, they’re still asking for these stupid things in high school?)
So I hope this info saves some of you at least a few hours of homework drudgery!
Get it in his next IEP that they will accept spelling puzzle assignments done on “Puzzlemaker.”
