Hey Ohio, I tried calling the number you gave me for LDA and it says the number was disconnected. Do you have any other numbers?
Thanks
Re: Tell them
you need a real advocate, not a parent advocate. Ask pointedly if there is one available. I got one of their advocates…she was hell-on-wheels. One call to the district special ed guy and everything began to go smoothly. She gave me books and good advice, but she spent at the most, 2 hours total on our case. I hear they have 250,000 children and 24 advocates.
Write the letter. You may get an advocate. They don’t want to figure it out for the parent and hold your hand, they want to know the issues and take action.
Re: Tell them
So Osinski, you got an advocate from this place? What should I tell them in the letter? Should I explain what my problems are with the school, or just that the parent advocate isn’t helping me? You’re from Ohio too, right?
I called the Ohio Coalition for the education of Children, and guess what? They gave me a name for an advocate in my area, it was the parent advocate I had told you about earlier, that works for our school system. She’s the one who has gone to meetings with me and never said a word. They same one who let the school system place her hearing impaired daughter in a DH class, because she was tired of fighting with them.
They said if I write a letter stating why I want another advocate they will assign me one. I hate to cause this other woman any trouble, but I need help. So, I’ll be writing a letter.
