Does anyone have the average cost of a private LD school? Is there any help out there to parents who don’t have a lot of money and will get laughed out of the iep meeting for even suggesting such a school. thanks
Re: cost of a private LD school?
You never know till you ask. What private LD schools are in your area? You can always go visit them and make an application for your son. Unless they ask you about financial aid, you don’t have to mention it. Usually there’s a box on the application to check if you need financial aid.
If they ask, tell them that financial aid would be helpful and you’d like to apply for it.
Re: cost of a private LD school?
11-16,000 at the day school wehre I taught.
*Most* students got at least some financial aid. The school’s approach was not to pare down the tuition but to have scholarship funds instead; this way the 20% or so of the students who were there courtesy of school systems were paying a realistic tuition, but parents had a decent chance of being able to get some of the cost reduced.
The development office is very organized and active, which I know isn’t true at all private schools.
This school also actively doesn’t want to be a “rich white kids’ escape” school, so they will work hard to try to get a culturally and economically diverse group (otherwise, I’d imagine, you could tell a mile away who the “public school” students were, tho’ many of them had to have parents with enough $$ for lawyers for due process).
Re: cost of a private LD school?
We’re paying 11,500. We did not go through the costly steps of getting the district to pay. The price for us as a family and the constant strings attached were too high. But, others are right about scholarships and financial aide. See if your child is right for that particular school and then see if there is financial help available.
15,000 to 30,000 and up; depending on day or residential.
