hey parents, check this out

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Parents of disabled children should check this out. I happened to stumble across this while looking around this website. Look under Teaching Students with LD and see the post from “feel like a mat!!” I hope this teacher is an exception to the rule when it comes to LD Teachers. Very interesting and outrageous.

Sorry, never mind. I was just angry with a comments made. Not worth the battle and not meant to be a witch hunt.

Lisa, despite the fact that you rescinded your initial suggestion, I want to differ with your assessment of “feel like a mat.”

I know how she feels. She is not complaining about the students. She is frustrated with a system that does not provide enough resources for her to do her job as she wishes (she wants to teach her LD students). She is frustrated with the full-inclusion model that dumps her students in a reg. classroom and sends her in to “help” them. Frequently this inclusion model is not good for students or teachers, but the pressure coming from outside the educational establishment to do “inclusion” is tremendous. I had to submit to it for several years before I could announce, with the nod from my superiors, that I could got better results with the pull-out, small group model. In my little quiet room where I have resources I can actually TEACH.

I am very sorry that you reacted to this teacher as you did. She is probably a very caring and concerned teacher who will not resign herself to teaching situations that are not good for her students. However, she has to buck the system very carefully, walking every step on eggshells.
