W-J results

I am going to post my son’s results here. I realize after looking at these results he will not qualify for help, but suggestions on accomodations would be great.

Background is that son is 7yrs old and in second grade. He recently was tested independently of capable of reading 6th grade text easily, but still cannot spell even the most rudimentary words. (i.e. true=troo, what=wat, feed=fead). His motor skills are delayed, and the physical act of writing is very difficult for him

Anyway here are the results:

Needs:

Very restless, constant motion;needs frequent,short breaks where physical energy can be spent. breaks are critical to quality performance

can be overwhelmed when sees an entire page of work; consider covering up part of a page to hide items further down or cutting pages into strips to break down tasks.

easily distracts self with unrelated things, can become overfocused on unrelated thought, action, etc; redirect immediately to task at hand.

etc …. don’t feel like typing the whole thing, my carpal tunnel is KILLING Me!

Any thoughts??

I would ask the school to assist with an ADHD “assessment.” The school, of course, does not assess, but both you and the teacher can fill out a rating instrument to learn if he fits the profile. Then you take this information to your doctor for further consideration.

He doesn’t have Language based LD’s that is for sure and I wished my dear daughter scored as well as your kiddo… I would bet the farm that he is ADHD. Kids with ADHD are notorious for having poor writing skills and being inattentive with spelling and especially being inattentive with math calculations, they know the process but they rush through helter skelter to get finished. I was one of those gifted ADDer’s as a kid, very verbal, good with reading, comprehension and vocab but math accuracy was not my strong suite..
