Would any one advice me in how I could go about finding a tutor for my 10 year old who has reading learning disablity?
Re: tutoring
I found my tutor by e-mailing the “Spalding” reading method. They referred me to a tutor in my area. She is great ,my daughter went from .8 to 1.8 from
September to March 6 months of tutoring. She is doing better than the other kids in the reading group in public school. You might want to get the book “The Writing Road To Reading” by Spalding it explains the method so you can see if it is the right choice for you. My daughter is in 3rd grade by the way and I don’t remember the exact e-mail address as I had to search for it at the time, but glad I did. I wish you luck .
There are several alternatives. The best one is to get a recommendation from another parent who is happy with their tutor and whose child has similar issues as your child. Another alternative is checking through your school system and getting names (but ask to talk to other families who use them). Another alternative is the facility of any LD private schools in the area or any colleges or universities. Finally if your area has a not-for-profit LD agency, that is a great option. They generally know who is good and who to avoid.
Just keep asking questions. And remember what works for one child may not work for another. Since tutoring is so expensive, try to see if the tutor can give your child work that he can work on with you in between sessions.
Good luck!
