We are relocating to the Denver area and are in search of a private school for our 6 year old son entering 1st grade. My son has LD in short term auditory memory and oral expression. He is impulsive (mainly speaking before thinking), hyperactive (fidgets), loves to TOUCH everything and has an IQ of 124. He thinks out-of-the box, loves tinkering with household items with few toys have a great long term interest. Although social skills classes would be helpful, he does not have behaivoral issues. Mainly we are looking for low ratios, understanding of LD’s with multisensory methods of teaching. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Re: LD Schools in Denver
Jean, You might want to have your son evaluated by The Gifted Development Center in Denver. Linda Silverman who has written many books on the subject is the head of it. You might be surprised that it sounds as if your child is very gifted but possibly a visual spatial learner. They specialize in this particular ability. Go to their web site and take the quiz about these types of kids. Hope this helps. By the way, Dr. Silverman says that most gifted and highly gifted children do have an LD. Many of their IQ scores are decreased just by virtue of the way the test is given. JAN

Re: LD Schools in Denver
Jan, thank you very much for your advice. I have an email into the Center. I’ll have to focus more of my attention to the Gifted arena. I am so thankful for this website and all the input parents, teachers, doctors, etc provide.
