How often can you repeat WIAT?

I asked my child’s school to repeat the WIAT reading tests from a year ago so we could make an assesment on my childs progress. They told me that it cannot be repeated this close to the last one. I thought that applied to IQ testing not achievement testing? How far apart do they need to be and what assessment should we use to mesure progress?
