Hi i took my son to a hear test today and his hearing was normal. However, she did suggested that maybe the school would like a further testing in the central auditory system. does anyone know about these test what is different than a regular test. The lady explain to me that with this test it will measure how much information my understand and is able to process.any comments on this test.

was he your child diagnosed with something else after you had this done. Did the school order it? what changes if any were added to iep after this test?Charlene wrote:

the tests seemed to show that he is unable to distinguish the relevent parts of discussions and instructions from the background noises and others talking. they call this auditory processing disorder.
i am the one that has been initiating the testing. his pediatrician, who is writing the reports and attempting to ‘diagnose’ the problem actually asked for this test.
our eips(in alberta) aren’t as big a deal as they seem to be in the states.
i only recently started having tests done-because of behavior problems at home. after a bit of testing this whole can of worms got opened up!!!
we don’t have the services to do a lot for the learning disabled kids-opur government is very stingey with their money and our kids are not a priority. aaron will be in a class of 30 children with a bit of teacher assistance. fortunately for him, he has somehow learned to read and write and spell!
the major accomodation we will be making for him is to get him an FM sound system. He will wear headphones and the teacher will wear a mike. it will block the background noise and put instructions and relevent info straight into his ears. he has a classmate who has one and i use a similiar system in the classroom that i teach in. difference is that i have a big speaker in the room and kids don’t wear earphones.
