I just found among my stacks of papers!! A curriculm at a glance for my son’s school. He is in private kindergarten now and will be there again for first grade.
Anyway, the kindergarten curriculum was:
Letters:
-recognition
-formation
-upper/lower case
Beginning Handwriting
-consonant sounds
-vowel sounds
-beginning/ending sounds
-rhyming
Simple sentence structure
Poetry & Literature
-memorizing poems
-beginning reading
-fiction vs non fiction
Ok, so he he struggled with letters. He is still unable to recognize all the letters or put letter sounds with them.
The first grade curriculum is:
Handwriting
-proper letter formation
-using lines
Reading
-phonics
consonant sounds
vowel sounds
beginning/ending sounds
rhyming
basic syllabication
-basic sight words
Reading comprehension
Writing
-sentence structure
-beginning punctuation
-captialization
-intor to grammer
-contreactions
-simple poetry
-simple creative writin
Spelling
I am thinking that I will purchase handwriting without tears and Earobics. The Doctor I met with set to start him with Earobics and see how he went. We are also going to work on some math, I have Early Bird Math by Winnie Tan, I can’t remember what the series is called but he liked them alot before.
My goal is 15 to 20 minutes everyday on the math and handwriting and give him the option on how much time he wants to spend on the Earobics.
I don’t want to overload him but I also don’t want him to fell frustrated when first grade gets going!!
Any other suggestions? He has Capd and is dyslexic.
As always in advance, Thanks
K.
Re: Success! Success!
My goal is the letters and letter sounds. Also, the teacher expressed concern that he was not remembering the number 11-20.
I don’t want to overload him so hopefully this goal not be too little or too much!

My suggestion would be to make the goal *real* mastery of what you cover, not seeing how far you can get.
