Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

we are contemplating moving to westchester new york, and would like to research schools ahead of time. Any info. on public and/or private that are good for children with learning disabilities would be so appreciated. (particuarly public school systems to avoid!!)

Thanks!

Hi, we are currently in a public school system. We are in the Mamaroneck Schools. I have been very happy with them and they have a awesome (one of the only school district in West.) Special Ed, Pre-K. I am sure there are others but within my area. This is the only one.

The main thing is get involved with the Special Ed. PTA of the district or get someone you know who knows, Special Ed, Speech/OT or PT to advocate for just you and your child.

You really need to have someone(relative, good friend) on the same side of the table as you.

Thanks, we are currently in a regular private school so the whole public special ed thing is a different animal than what I am used to. That’s why I want to really scope the situation out before we make any decisions. Are you familiar with any local private schools? The only one I’ve heard of is Windward which is in white plains.
