I can not find or afford a private Wilson or Orton tutor for the summer and my son needs to have some type of program. I found this program online and was wondering if anyone had done it themselves??
I will also be doing, Handwriting without tears and Earobics.
thanks
K.

Re: Orton Gillingham, do it myslef?
You can teach Orton-Gillingham yourself if you wish to attend a year-long training session. Or, you can use a program like the Language Tune-Up Kit to do it for you!
Please visit www.jwor.com for details.
Re: Orton Gillingham, do it myself?
Just to note that these are “derived from” O.G., not the “official” O.G. (primarily because they don’t involve that O.G. training — if you can get a workshop, I’d do it, and yea, they’re shorter than a year no matter what Jim says :))
And, of course, those guys just happened to pounce on the O-G name for the domain. Please don’t assume endorsement by the Orton society. Gosh, if I’d only thought to buy Pepsi.com…
That said, I don’t know anything about the program; some other competitors on the market if you want to take a look at them are Susan Barton’s program at www.dys-add.com, Karen Rooney’s at krooney.com and one called “Morgan Dynamic Phonics,” and “Concept Phonics” by Dr. Phyllis Fischer.
These will generally have specific multisensory activities (things like writing in sand) that are the hallmark of O-G programs which the Reading Reflex authors don’t find necessary for their program.

Almost forgot I”d put this online…

Multisensory Structured Language Programs - Summary
and Reflections
Re: Orton Gillingham, do it myself?
I didn’t realize that a do ityourself program wasn’t related to the real OG!!
I am looking for something that is Mulit sensory that I can do over the summer, like wilson, OG, Lindamood bell. There aren’t any centers in my area and even if there were, we can’t afford it right now!
I am going to the book store tonight to look for reading reflex.
My son is just six and having letter recognition, reversals, letter sounds, and rhyming difficulties.
K.
K,
Have you looked at Reading Reflex? It is less than $20 at a book store and I think it would be great to work with a kid going from K to first grade.
Don’t know anything about program you are referring to.
