I have read a lot about the parents and teachers concerned over students getting a certificate instead of a diploma if they can’t pass a graduation test. I am concerned with the opposite. My son might graduate with a diploma, but not the skills that are assumed to go with it. (he is ADD, LD, OCD) His high school seems to modify sped courses so the students pass as long as they have tried. The teachers will even “tweak” the grades so the student will pass with a “D” if necessary and not have to repeat the course. Where is this going to put my son? I feel like he needs intensive remediation. How do I get the school district to perform this act? Am I expecting too much of my son and and putting undue pressure on him? What type of a future is there for him?
Re: high school diploma
This is not a teacher slam. I worry all the time that my child is not being taught to his potential so I teach him as much as I can and give him more challenging work to do.
There is an attitude that they don’t want to frustratate him by giving him anything to hard to do. So, he gets easy stuff and gets board.
I don’t know your financial status
(scraping by like me? ;-)
But you might want to look into Landmark College.

I’ve heard they will spend their first year
curing and correcting kids who have suffered
at the hands of the public school system.
