push in / pull out ???????????

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I spoke with the IEP facilitator from our K-2 building last night. She is very lovely and much more able to communicate than our 3-5 facilitator.

She used the term “push in and pull out” a few times. I get pull out, but what is push in? And do they always go together? I know I’ve seen in somewhere (in my many internet searches) but now I can’t remember.

I know I should have asked when she said it, but I had so many questions that I wanted to ask that I didn’t want to get off track with a term I knew I had heard somewhere before.

Anyone with a good explanation and possibly experienced it?

Push in is when the services are provided in the classroom; the aide or teacher go in to support the student.

Push out is when the the child goes out of the regular classroom for services.

Fancy words to confuse the parent.
