Hi all,
I’ve been reading the threads on interactive metronome, and have found the level of improvement for your children intriguing. I’d like to try this program with my son.
I’ve reviewed the demo at their website - and they talk about different tones in different ears for being before and behind the target beat. My son can hear tones - but often can’t discern which ear it comes in. I’m worried that he won’t be able to access the benefits of IM because of this. I’ve asked for this information from IM - but haven’t gotten a direct answer from their therapist.
Does anyone here who has experience with this program have an opinion on that for me?
Thanks
Re: IM and auditory processing disorder
We’ve done earobics - what therapy did you use to address localization?
Re: IM and auditory processing disorder
Lil,
My son does not have an auditory processing issue, yet, he did have a problem with this in the beginning. He had difficulty with sequencing and discrimination of left and right.
He was able to figure it out but it took 6 presessions. It was frustrating in the beginning because he seemed to have alot of trouble changing his response to get the correct sound. He did work it out. I am guessing this is really a question of severity.
If your child has a severe problem with this it may not work. If not, perhaps IM will help address the issue. It is hard to say for sure.

Re: IM and auditory processing disorder
We did low frequency sound therapy and work with a tuning fork with an audiologist. Before therapy, he couldn’t tell which ear the sounds were coming into even with small speakers placed right by each ear. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t been the one holding the speakers!!

I think there are some visual cues as well. My son had the same difficulty with localization but through therapy had resolved this problem prior to doing IM.
