My twins have autism. They are high-functioning and fully-included in kindergarten with a shared aid. The school has not provided her training, (despite my offers to fund it clear back before school started) -other than meeting with OT & SP. It is January! Still no training. What has training looked like for those of who have obtained it? Am I chasing a holy grail?

My daughter has Asperger’s, and I had training for the teachers written into the iep. call another iep meeting and insist that training for the aide (and the teachers) be specifically included. This should specify how many hours of training and what the focus would be. My kid’s teachers received 3-4 hours of training on Asperger’s and my particular child from the district’s Behavioral Consultant—who had observed my child in school for a day and really knew something about her disability. Also include a training by date. Then, when they fail to do it, you can file a compliance complaint and get action. It took me two years of compliance complaints to get them to do it, but the teachers really need the training as well as the aide.Good luck!!
