WISC or Stanford binet

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son had a woodcock johnson test for cognitive and Academic testing 1.5 years ago however a few scores were left off the reports i dont know if they were done not like visual closure and incomplete words..he was found SLD however he still ahs problems and his doctors say he is gifted as well. They have said the school needs to do eiether a WISC or a Stanford Binet test. However the school says they did enough when they did the WJ.I have asked and have gotten it in writing by his doctors as well. The school is not budging on their feelings. My son is suffering in the meanwhile.Everywhere I go to they say the school has to do these tests so why do they say no.

Meet with the person who did the testing and have that person explain to you (not through a letter) what the WJIII cognitive and achievement scales measure and how they determined his LD diagnosis. You can of course have additional testing done privately, if you feel that would qualify your child for additional services. More IQ testing may not shed any more light on the problems your child experiences; see the link I posted on WISC subtest scores.

The reason these others say more testing needs done is due to the fact that his scores are scattered. Also he tested gifted in some areas and not even average in other areas. My son has some other factors as well to some neuological problems and stuff. But after 3 independent psychartrist say more testing should be done and a team of doctors say it too consisting of a nueologist, psycholoigist and a social worker say more needs too be done also a Scottish Rite center. All saying the school is responsible for the right testing shoudnt I be worried.I am not really asking for more services just the right instruction. My son does get speech 3 times a week,OT 45 mins once a weeek, and 40 mins of resource a day.He is going in 4th grade and enough playing around with stuff has been done he is still struggling why cant he write or read .He missed spelled him name the other day come on this is not common for a 10 year old.He did not recogize he even did it.He had to be shown how to write a few letters still.
