my son is now 9 this is his third year in a iep he repeated kindergarden after he repeated is when i had my original iep meeting his overall iq is 57. i dont think that is his true iq, when i ask what is his specific problems they said he just had a low iq. that is not enough for me i would like to get a outside opinion rather than just school, not to say i am unhappy with his teachers they are wonderful. but where do i start? any advise would be helpful

When was the testing done? Were you given a diagnosis or name of a condition with the “low IQ”? Start with your pediatrician, ask for a referral to a neurologist and then a psychologist to find out what condition your child may have that causes him to test(what test was used?) so low. You should expect to be interviewed both about his early development and about his daily living(adaptive behavior) skills. “Low” IQ does not mean that the student doesn’t make progess, just that it is slower than the “average” child.
