I have a few students who consistently make b and d reversals when reading and writing. Does anyone have some suggestions or “tricks” that I can use to help them? Thanks, Kristi

b and d reversals
I have a son who is an SLD student in reading/writing with visual prrocessing problems. I showed him in 2nd grade a trick with his hands. You hold your hands in front of you like a thumbs up and your palms are facing towards your body. We took a washable marker and I outlined the stick of each as his thumb going down to the bottom of his palm and then around the outside of his other fingers that are curved over his palm (like a fist with the thumb sticking up). He knew to go from left to right, and the b comes before d in the alphabet so when you hold your hands like this you can tell the which one is the b (left hand) & d (right). Now my son is in the 8th grade and I will occassionally still see him put his hands in this position when he is reading, the marker was only a one time thing for him to visualize it.
