My son Nick is almost 6 and struggles in Kindergarten due to auditory processing disorder. I am thinking of purchasing the Tomatis Listening CD Program which consists of 12 CDs of music he will listen to that are designed to enhance neural pathway development.Because this program costs $400 to buy I am wondeirng if any parents can share their experiences about it with me. What age is it appropriate for? Was it helpful to your child? How long did you use it?Thanks for your replies! Nancy mom to Nick
Re: Anyone used the Tomatis Listening Program for their chil
We did the full-blown in-clinic Tomatis program, followed by The Listening Program. My dd was 5.5 (almost 6) and in Kindergarten as well. She also had a severe auditory processing deficit(memory and word discrimination both in handicapped single digit levels).
Tomatis saved her life! In Kindergarten, we were told by her teacher that she has never had a kid like ours before. Now she is in 3rd grade, teacher says she would never have known that she has anykind of ‘disability’, if we had not had told her.
It’s not a cure, you still have to do remediation at multiple levels afterword.
P.S. I’ve done TLP twice, my son has done 2-3 times (can’t remember) and dd has done TLP 4-5 times. As well as ‘boosters’ that we go back to clinic periodically - however, haven’t done any for almost 1.5yrs now.
I used The Listening Program, which is home based, with my son when he was in third grade. I thought though that Tomatis was an office based program—and much more expensive than $400.
We saw some nice results from The Listening Program—it helped his auditory processing and made him more teachable.
I think sound therapy is a very good option for K aged children. I wish I had done it when he was in K.
