Has anyone ever used the programs “Empower” and “Framing your thoughts strategies”? My nephew goes to a private school in Rochester and they use these programs. Anybody have any experience with these? Dr. Mel Levine recommends them highly. Liz
Re: Dr. Mel Levine
We use Framing Your Thoughts in our program although I have only a little experience with it myself. I think that it is part of the Project Read family of programs. It it the writing piece. Children learn to write a barebones sentence (subject and predicate) and then learn to add expanders. The program is multisensory and uses symbols to diagram the sentences. (more user friendly than the way I was taught to diagram). Many students are doing well with Framing Your Thoughts. As is always the case, though, there are children who need us to keep looking for theaching methods that are right for them. Also, as always, see what kind of training, support and experience the teacher has with the program. One of our teachers had extensive training and is a helpful resource to people like me who are new to the program.
I don’t know anything about “Empower”, but I do know that our neuropsych recommended “Framing your Thoughts” for my NLD son. Of course, I haven’t gotten the school to agree to it, but…
