NEED INPUT ON THE SUBJECT: What field do you think will be the most effective to go into to help LD children? Advocacy, Special Education Teacher? A little bit of both?
Re: Need some input!!!
I’m talking about going to back to school to learn what a teacher is suppose to do and then becoming an advocate. First learning to be a good advocate!!!!!
I do care alot about my children and other children as well getting a unfair deal in life. Most school I believe, advertize “No child left behind” motto. But if you were to ask how many LD children graduate, I believe the numbers to be low in most cases. I also believe alot of these children could graduate and go on to college.
In this area that I live in we don’t have very many advocates and I would like to learn how to become a very good one. I think, and please correct me if you think different, if these schools had someone watching them they might do alot better than they do.
Re: Need some input!!!
I agree with you 100%.
I wish I had a law degree or advocacy training so I could help but I realize I don’t have the skills to do these things. I will have to do what I can in my way.
Best wishes on your journey to help.
Barb
I think that would depend on your skills.
I know a wonderful advocate who really isn’t all that good with kids. I would imagine there are great special ed teachers who would make crummy advocates. Play to your strenghts.
That said, it seems to me most spec ed teachers ARE advocates for their charges.
