dysgraphia

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 11-year-old with dysgraphia has become an amazing typist, thank goodness, but now we are looking for the most convenient and efficient technology for him to use in classroom and home. He’s had an AlphaSmart, but the screen is too small for longer documents. Because of his organization troubles, I’m trying to streamline his tools. Classroom computer, Alphasmart, home computer etc. all make it hard for him to keep tract of his work. Anyone have any experience? Tks.

You might want to check into a Dreamwriter. It is durable and has a bigger screen.

If your son takes good care of things, doesn’t loose things and is responsible a laptop is the other alternative. The Dreamwriter isn’t cheap but it would take your son through 8th grade. We bought my son a HP PDA which is like a mini laptop in 6th grade and he used it for thee years but unfortunately they are not selling these any longer and then bought him a laptop this year for High School.

the HP laptop has been pretty amazingly durable for my kids. And trust ME they are NOT gentle! My oldest uses a mouse attached to the back rather then the touch pad. My youngest has to use ear piece when typing.

You might want to look into the Dana - another product put out by the AlphaSmart company. It has a larger screen, is very durable and portable. Check them out at the alphasmart website.
