HEad over to http://www.cdl.org where they’ve got an arsenal of things like position papers from the American School Psychs… and just from reading the titles I can infer that for the most part, they think this retention thing is getting out of hand. (Hey, hold *everybody* back and they’re all more likley to do better on the Sacred Supertests.)
[%sig%]
Lately, I’ve also been wondering if the Sacred SuperTests are in part related to the rise in diagnosing/medicating ADHD children.
We have one ADHD child we do not medicate, but if we were in a state with the high-stakes testing at key milestones, I’d really be thinking twice about medication.
Montgomery County just announced that, instead of 2007, they are delaying the high-school graduation requirement based on passing the state proficiency tests until 2008. That means our two kids will squeak through without that nightmare.
