I have heard this mentioned several times and looked at thier web-site- I have a few questions. Do you have to get certified in IM in order to do the prgram w/ your child? If so, has anyone used someone that is already certified? How much did it cost-(I live in Texas)? Was it worth the $. Is there another good program that would be comprable, but less expensive? Any info would be appreciated.

I can answer a few of your questions as I am currently training in this program.

Yes, you need to be certified to do the program with your child and need to have relevant training/experience, such as being an assistant to a clinical professional (OT,PT,RN), having a bachelor degree with experience in a related field like teaching, or an OT, PT, RN, audiologist etc. with a masters or doctorate.

Providers set their own fees, depending on the area. It can be comparable or slightly more to what you would pay for tutoring (in rural areas for example) or a higher rate for a city, for ex.

I cannot attest to its value directly, as of yet, except that I researched it as thoroughly as I could and spoke with an audiologist and a psychometrist who use it and say good things about it.

You can also do a search on these boards and get archived opinions.

Hi Amy,

My son is doing it currently. He as two more sessions. Unless you are planning to go into business it would be more expensive to be ceritified. Beside the software you would need the sensors. I am paying in CA $1500 for 15 sessions. Many parents are finding that their kids need more sessions. Additional session here would be $100 each. My son is 15 and his scores are coming way down so that 15 sessions is might be all that he needs. I am looking at it to improve his handwriting. I need to know follow-up and find someone to work on handwriting because at this point he doesn’t remember (I think) how to make the letters.

Why don’t you post to the board your child’s profile and others who have done different therapies will comment on if IM or another program is what you should be looking for.

We did IM last year and will repeat it in two weeks because my son’s timing did not go down far enough.

I saw many improvements in sequencing, attention and motor planning.

The therapist we used has a son who is autistic. She became certified initially for him and now does it as a business. She has done it with him many times.
