PASSWORD>aa9E2lXdDHy/AHi everyone,My name is Yiching, and I’m a 3rd year psychology student at UCLA. I am currently enrolled in a a field work class that involves researching issues relevant to special education. For my research, I am hoping to gain an understanding of what parents’ experience when their child has a disability. Also, I am specifically interested in finding out how satisfied parents’ are with their children’s teachers and other service providers. Here are some of the questions that I have…but please don’t feel like you have to answer all of them. I just want you to understand what I’m looking for. Any information you would be willing to share with me would be greatly appreciated! =)As a parent…How has your life changed since your child was born? What have you learned from raising your child so far? What are some of the difficulties of raising a child with disabilities? (emotional, psychological, physical, mental…)What do you do to cope with the difficulties you face? What are some of the joys of raising a child with disabilities? What is it that you worry about most, when it comes to your child? What is it that you want most for your child? Are you satisfied with the education and services your child receives?Do you feel comfortable talking with teachers and service providers about all of the issues that concern you?Do you feel that you are included in the decision making process (when it comes to making decisions for your child (IEPs etc..) as much as you would like to be?Are you ever afraid of asking questions or making suggestions? If you could say anything to your child’s teachers and service providers, what would you tell them? What aspects of your relationship with your child’s teachers and service providers are you satisfied or happy with? What aspects do you wish to improve?Do you feel that your child’s teachers and service providers understand your perspective, are sensitive to it, and respectful of it?I know that I have a lot of questions…but please don’t let it overwhelm you! I don’t expect you to answer the questions specifically (I know everyone is busy, and answering all the questions would take way too long!)…I just wanted to guide your thinking, and give you an idea of what I’m interested in learning.By the way, I also want you to know that any information you provide will be kept confidential, and used only for the purposes of the research in my special education class.Thank you in advance, for all your help!Sincerely,Yiching
