I posted this on the “Parenting a child with LD” messages board. I want to get as much responds as I can so I posted it her also.My dd has a very awkward habit. She has been doing this since she was a baby. She will turn 6 years old in March and is still doing this.Let me try to explain what she does. When my dd is in deep thought she hold up her hands and waves them. Well she does not really waves them, she just moves her fingers. At home she does this when she is playing by herself with her toys, when she playing one of her computer games, and sometime when she is trying to explain something to myself or someone else she will do this. My husband also did this as a child. He says it is something she will learn to stop doing. We have also spoken to her Ped. about this. There is nothing physically wrong with her.My dd (dear draughter) is in K-5. She has a behavior card there. They get a sticker if they had a good day. Lately my dd has been losing her stickers for not listening and following directions. The teacher writes the reason why she lose her sticker on the behavior card. Here is what she wrote today…”dd has been moving her feet and waving her hands instead of doing her classwork. The music teacher said that dd did not participate in music class because she was waving her hands and moving her feet.”She only got two stickers this week and did not recieve a treat.Does anyone know of someone else that does this? Could this be a LD? I am LD myself but I did not do this when I was little. Do I need to go back to the doctors and talk to them again? I also understand that the other kids are noticing this and are mimicking her. But dd does not seem to see this. At least she has not talk to me about this. The teacher has brought this up doing a parent teacher conference.TIA, JenniferPost a Response
