Adderall & sleep

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son started on 10mg of Adderall last week. He tells us it does seem to make him concentrate more but his teacher said she hadn’t noticed a difference in school. The only difference he noted is that he is falling asleep every day during recess (which has been inside because of bad weather). My son is not getting up at night and is not having a hard time falling asleep when he goes to bed at 9pm. When the doc gave me the prescription he told me to increase it to 20mg if we didn’t notice a difference with his concentration. I did this yesterday and his teacher sent a note home just letting me know that he was much more attentive and willing to participate in class yesterday - she was quite surprised. I did not let her know I increased his Adderall. But he is still sleeping during the day during recess. Any suggestions?

: Interesting. Who minds him catching a cat nap during an indoor recess? I might be tempted to wait on this until the return of good weather to see what happens then. If he’s curling up on the grass and napping during outdoor recess in beautiful spring weather, then I’d explore it further.I feel like sleeping on gray, dreary, winter days too.Good luck.My son started on 10mg of Adderall last week. EMAILNOTICES>noPASSWORD>aaetA44bKITAIFirst I would question your son as far as what the students do inside during indoor recess. Might it be something that he doesn’t really care for?Another question is how popular is he in the classroom? When my son was in the lower grades, the class usually played something like 7-up during indoor recess. It is a game where everyone puts their head on their desk. Then three students tap different people on their heads. The people tapped have to guess which of the three did the tapping. If their guess is correct, then they would get to change places with that person. Of course, the person tapping would pick his friends. Most times it would go around and around with the same group of students playing and the same group of students being ignored. If your son’s class plays a game like this and he is one of the ignored, then maybe he pretends to fall asleep. It is a lot easier to pretend to sleep than to be one of the ignored.: My son started on 10mg of Adderall last week. He tells us it does
