I am having a meeting to revise my son’s IEP on Thursday because of his failing grades. Only after his report card did I learn from the teacher that he has basically not done anything on classroom assignments. She grades mostly on tests, but is not doing anything on classroom assignments during the day so all of his tests were D’s & F’s. He is ADD inattentive. Could someone give me some good Task Completion goals for his IEP that you have had success with? Also should I address some of his shutting down behaviors in a Behavior Modification Plan?

In task completion and behavior; a proactive approach is of the best benefit. In other words WAY before he recieves failing grades,the teacher should of made him or you aware of the fact that his assignments were not turned in. A daily check list sometimes helps. A web site where access to assignments are posted is helpful also. Emailing assignments from the teacher is another possibility. Meltdowns occur when the frustration gets to be unbearable. The ONLY way to address this is to help deal with the frustration before he continues on to the meltdown. This can be address in a behavior plan,but unless identified antecedents is observed and a proactive approach is used to prevent the meltdown,the meltdowns will continue,because what causes the meltdowns continues too.
