health/life insurance eligibility

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

A new question(worry) popped up in my head this week. I know my son is only 12 and a half but I just started thinking about how he will qualify for health and life insurance after he is 18. We are military but will be on the retiree health plan the same year he graduates from high school. We have only ever used the mil. hospital or mil. med. insurance for our family. If he doesn’t go to college, he will no longer be able to use the mil.medical, if he does go, it will only be good until he is 23. I am wondering if we should enroll him in some kind of plan so that the preexisting condition thing won’t catch him up and he won’t get care or medicine if he needs it still. I am wondering if the add will keep him from qualifying for health or life insurance? Thanks for any ideas.
