looking for a good vision therapist/vt experiences

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello everyone,

Well, we are scheduled to begin IM training in the summer and I will let you all know how it turns out.

Our OT thinks my son should also do vision therapy. We will be in Westchester County, NY this summer and I was hoping to find someone there. Anyone from Westchester who can recommend a good behavioral optometrist? I know it is controversial and completely disregarded by the opthamologists, but my son also has a lazy eye and none of us want a second surgery. I also think you must be careful about the therapist you use … there is lots of room for quackery here. Any experiences?

We tried VT in Hong Kong when my son was 7, but, he was just not ready for it then. I am sure he is ready now.

I just feel like taking my son to the U.S. for 1 year to do IM, VT, Pace, and Lindamood Bell. I could homeschool for 5th grade. But, that would mean no dad (or husband for that matter) for a year! There is also his little sister to consider….this is not easy.

Thanks again everyone,
Margo

My daughter also had intermittent exotropia (wandering eye). A year with an ophthamalogist, eye patching and surgery didn’t really help. Then we took her to a vision therapist. It really helped. So I encourage you with the vision therapy.
