he was was Adderall 10mg twice a day (20mg total). he was doing well on them. He wanted to switch to a one-a-day so that when he goes to school in the fall, he does not need to go to the nurse for meds. He was homeschooled when this started so wasn’t an issue. Concerta 18mg a day doesn’t seem to help, so we have to either go back to Adderall twice a day, doc says, or stay on Concerta 18mg once a day. Also, they switched us to generic form of Adderall when he was on that, which I wasn’t sure about. I would love your opinions on generic Adderall and Concerta vs. Adderall? Also, what about Adderall XR I heard about? Thanks in advance.
Re: My ds was on Adderall, now Concerta, and soon ?
My son went through the same thing and Concerta didn’t work. He went to Adderall XR as soon as it came out. It actually worked better than the regular Adderall. However, read the message prior to yours (“Summer off meds”) and you’ll see one possible drawback-my son has basically ceased to grow. Admittedly, this may have nothing to do with the meds and he will defintely go back on the Adderall XR the week before school starts. I have nothing but good things to say about Adderall XR.

Maybe we should stick with Concerta a little longer. We only have had him on it for less than a month and he hasn’t taken it every single day. I’m also thinking that the reason he doesn’t think it’s working as well as Adderall is that he doesn’t see the huge difference in the way he feels when he first started the Adderall. He did wake up a few times feeling sick to his stomach since starting Concerta, but at the time I didn’t think about it being related to the Concerta. Maybe it’s part of the side-effects in the beginning. When he first started on Adderall, we saw much more pronounced side-effects and maybe this is less because he went right into Concerta from Adderall. I don’t know. Since we have homeschooled in the last year and we are on break, I can’t see how the academics are going. That is the main difference I saw, other than his talking so much did subside with Adderall. He really does not want to take any meds or even let them know at high school in the fall about his situation.
