visualization exercises

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have any good visualization exercises, or info about good references on the subject? A child in my class has trouble with this, and the specialists working with him aren’t addressing this too much. They tell her to make a picture in her head, but I think she needs more concrete guidance. Thanks in advance

I just had a meeting with my son’s sped teacher about this this morning. She said she addresses it the same way by telling them to make a picture in their head.

But, for someone who may have never seen “a picture in their head” this seems like a fruitless effort. It’s like telling someone to “look harder” when they don’t see something. Like those stupid magic eye pictures, I just CAN’T do it and looking harder at it won’t make me able to “see” it especially when I don’t know what I’m looking for.

I am very interested in Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing program which works on this very thing.

Since you are a teacher, maybe you might be able to implement these exercises. (www.lblp.com).
