Has been so wonderful for my son, his dad, and myself…..Finally I can walk into daycare and not be affraid to look the provider in the eyes, I get a smile everytime, even little notes sent home saying what a change they have seen in Jeremy. Jeremy often talks about his medacation, saying he likes taking it, it helps him think better before he does something wrong. He is enjoying not getting punished 24/7. Next week is our big test he goes back to school. The school has been informed that he is on meds now, and are looking forwards to a new and improved Jeremy this year…I just hope this holds true for him and my sanity.
Re: The Past 6 Days On Adderall XR
My daughter has also been on the same medication, Adderall XR. She started taking the medication right after school ended in June and I have seen wonders! July 24 she turned 6 and FINALLY after 6 yrs-she started conveying her feelings to me!!!! She talking more and more focused on all of her activities! I know here self-esteem has been boosted significantly! Just to her my little girl say, “Mommy I’m sad” after I told her how angery I was about an activity she did that I was not happy about. Or instead of pointing and saying “cake, cake” she said, “Mommy, can I have some cake?” And just the other day, she asked, “Mommy, do you want to play?” To a typical parent, this isn’t much, but to a parent that has a child that tries so hard every day of their lives, it’s the most amazing thing that will forever be a memory as though it happened just a minute ago! My daughter, however, is not just taking the Adderall XR. Just that medication alone worked but she seemed to possess the side effect that made her irritable. With the combination of Adderall XR and Paxil she is doing wonderfully! Prayers, patience, love and support will help all of our children through. Do not forget patience. In time they will get it, whatever “it” is. I too am wondering what this school year will bring. Time will tell; but Never, Never, Never give up on our little ones! We are all the got!
Re: The Past 6 Days On Adderall XR
Ditto!!!!
I couldn’t agree more! I just wanted to jump in and let you know that I have an eight year old daughter, sounds a lot like your daughter, who has been on regular Adderal since last September, then began Paxil this January and finally Adderal XR in April. Before Adderal XR, my daughter’s school had the nurse deliver her med at lunch in front of the whole class! My daughter is quiet and didn’t protest this, so we didn’t find out about it right away. Also, every morning her teacher was asking her in front of the class, had she had her medication before school! If she couldn’t remember, and that was often, they would call me, or my husband out of the training class he was in the midst of teaching, to ask if she needed to be given some! Finally, Lillie, my daughter, told us what was going on. We asked that they do things differently, but still found that they basically did as they chose to do, whether we requested otherwise or not.
Thankfully, the Adderal XR ended that entire scenerio for us. My daughter especially likes not having to talk about it at school anymore. She takes her Adderal before school and then doesn’t have to think about it again. She wants to feel as much like all the others as possible. I agree about the Paxil as well. My daughter was very withdrawn and moody. She was usually in her own world, deep in thought it seemed. If you broke her concentration, sometimes she would snap or scream to leave her alone. Especially after school, she still needs her quiet time to recharge and asks that I not expect to talk about school right away. Eventually, she will share details of her day, but always in her own good time. I think that trying to stay on task for so many hours really drains her. She wants to perform to the expected level. She wants to be like all the other kids around her so much. Sometimes, I worry that she has too much pressure on her both outwardly and from within. I think all kids do today, with all the standardized testing etc., they are all being driven sometimes way to hard, for their maturity level and learning ability. There is definitely too much focus on comparison and not enough on the strengths of the individual. It is good to know that we are not alone and that we can come here to support one another. There is still a long winding road ahead of us to navigate. Hopefully as research and education improve, so will our children’s learning environments. They are trying so hard, I just wish all the teachers could see this. Please write to me if you ever feel the need to share as we have similar circumstances. I am glad to be an ear, and we all definitely need one from time to time.
Take Care,
Debra
I also have a 7 year old son on adderall xr and I find it simpley amazing what a difference it makes. He too realizes that it helps him. We took him off meds for about amonth in between school and tutoring…….he told me that he needed his medication because he is a better listner when he takes it!!!! It broke my heart but at least he has a good understanding that it is helping him. Good luck next week!!!!
