Kyle's doing well..

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi everyone! Kyle has been on Adderall XR for 12 days now. This was his first full week of school, so I’m not sure how school has been going, but everything else has been so smooth. Since he wasn’t hyperactive, more inattentive, I was afraid it would be hard to notice changes. It hasn’t been! His conversational skills have improved quite noticably, he remembers what happened at school and can tell you about it at 6pm. When he talks to you, he makes eye contact! He’s not as impulsive, he stops and thinks more.

He competed in his first Tae Kwon Do tournament this weekend and recieved 2 Third places. There were about 300 kids there and it was REALLY chaotic, he was able to focus and pay attention to his coaches. I have no doubt that without his meds. he’d have gotten lost in the crowd and not done well competing.

The big test will be next week when he starts getting homework. I’m dreading another year of 2hr battles to get homework done, if the meds. help with that, it will all be worth it!

Go Kyle! And way to hang in there Mom!

I too have witnessed enormous improvements in my daughter’s abilities since she began Adderal XR. I think for some children, it can be a Godsend. My daughter is still having Academic issues that I believe are Dyslexia related that medication can not fix. Still she too has been very happy with the results from her meds. I agree about the homework battles. I have my daughter in counseling with our local county child and adolescent mental health services center. That has been helping her find ways to express her frustration without being so verbally abusive to Mom. We have our good days and then those dreaded off days too. The important thing I think is to try to focus on the positive gains, maximize the accomplishments and minimize the fumbles. It is really good to hear about other children having successes. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your sons with me.
