Hi everyone,
It’s that time of year again and my three children, 14,13,&10 (all ADD/ADHD) just started a new year of school and we all have high hopes.
Now I’m just going to jump straight to the subject that I am seaking help. I would like to legally start a ADD/ADHD Support Group for the families over here in Naples, Italy. I am certain that one of you readers might just be able to guide me on this. Our community desperately NEEDS a group like such. Yes, in the past I scuffed at the idea of going to groups like this and telling others my business but I have become more open-minded and realize that asking for help has really done wonders.
Thanks in advance, June
Re: New hope/Start support group
Hello,
I am a parent of a child with ADD. I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts in the USA.
I am having my first meeting for a support group on Thursday Sept 12th.
There is no other support group on the Cape for parents of children with ADD/ADHD. I called my local library which had a room we could have for free once a month. I put up fliers at pediatricians offices, counseling offices, and the local public elementrary schools.
I would suggest just making the decision to start one and to start making those phone calls to places that could give you space. keeping it to the same night every month (ie… the first monday) is the best. Then just contact as many people as you can that you think in your area that would benefit from the knowledge of the group and ask for their support in getting the word out there.
Good luck and I hop all of this helps
Re: New hope/Start support group
Great idea. After asking around I learned that I need to begin with submitting a proposal to JAG but to do that I need to do some things and just a few are :1. obtain insurance for this non-profit orginization I would like to get started. 2. I need to open a bank account for the organization.3. I need to have a tax number ( this of course to be completed I believe before the account can be opened). 4. Establish a place that will be occupied for sucorganization.
I have my work cut out for me but I really is worth it.

Re: New hope/Start support group
Hi June,
the SNAG group here meets at the ACS building conference room(Army comunity service), the ADHD group meets at one of the elementary schools in the cafeteria. I don’t know if that helps any as far as places to meet. I don’t have knowledge of how these groups were started so can’t help there. They have fliers at the library and ACS as well as school bulletin boards and PEDs office. Good luck, it sounds like a great thing you are doing.
On a different note, we traveled to Camp Darby the week before school started, we really enjoyed Italy, saw Pisa, Florence and Rome as well as played on the beach. I think you will really enjoy living there. Keep an open mind and learn as much of the language as you can. There’s a lot to see and do. Not all your kids education comes from school! We are extending to a 4th year here in Germany, Europe is a great opportunity. If you decide to come to Germany let me know, I’ll help out if I can. This is our second tour in Germany.
Got lots of travel suggestions. Best wishes.
Amy
I am on the board of an ADHD support group here in the suburbs of Chicago. We have parents and professionals that work together to bring presentations and support to our members. We are largest local group in our area.
The group is about 12 years old and I was not involved when it first got off the ground; so I don’t know the legal particulars myself. But if you e-mail me I can put you in touch with those who helped create the group.
