My 13 year old son has ADHD, diagnosed since he was 5. I also have 3 other children. I don’t believe any of them have ADHD, thank GOD! But one is still too little to tell.(he’s 2 and we are praying that he won’t have it) Anyway, my 13 year old has not been on meds for several years because the side effects were too much. (losing weight, not sleeping well, horrible moods coming off the meds) It has been rough going as you can imagine. My son has problems at school and at home, the normal ADHD problems that most familes are experiencing. Add puberty to that mix and it can get real ugly.
I have been reading everything I can about Strattera. I have shared this information with my son. He will be going to the doctor in a couple of weeks and I would like to try this medication with him. I am of course concerned because it is a new medication. I ask that everyone who is trying it please keep this bulletin board updated. I will post any and all experiences we have with the medication as well. I have been waiting for a medication such as Strattera for many years. I sincerely hope it is the med that we have been hoping for. Thanks for the ear! Michelle
Re: ADHD & Strattera- Here's to hope
Our daughter was involved in the study for 2 year and was never sleepy. She was on a split dose…one in the moring and in the afternoon around 4-5 pm. Maybe this is why.

Did you overlap the Concerta with the Strattera? My twins are also 11 and I am switching them right now? What dose are you giving your son?
Hi Michelle,
I am reading your post and I have the chills, I feel like you are talking about my son. I can relate so well to all the different meds and the brutal side effects that follow. My son , who is a little younger then yours, he is 11, has had the same difficulties with school but I have to tell you the home situation was getting out of control as well. I was getting so fed up with all the fighting with his siblings and the constant battles that raged all the time. We put him on Strattera because to be honest with you we felt we had absolutly nothing to lose by it. I was dead set on any other medication I will not have my son grow up addicted and in ill health. Anyways, the Strattera seems to be working out really well, I don’t really know if it is mind over matter or not but what ever it is I will take it. Just a little while ago he sat and did his home work with out any help from me which believe me is a major accomplishment for him and it has been 4 days now without any major battles going on and the best part of it is he says he feels “really good”. Please feel free to e-mail me if you want to chat about this. Best of luck to you, I really do understand.
