Metadate

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My 12 Y O son has been on for 8 days now. I haven’t noticed any significant changes except that he can’t get to sleep (even as late as 11pm). We go back to the doctor on the 25th. Anyone know anything about this drug? any experience? any suggestions? Thanks.

We tried Metadate last spring when I felt that the Concerta was not working as well as it had. I did not find that it worked better than the Concerta. It definitely did not last as long. The Concerta works 10-12 hours a day. We went back to the Concerta. My son was 16 at the time and took the 52mg pill.
We have tried all different types of medications and we always return to the Concerta. This past week we are trying Strattera and it appears to be working very well….my son’s appetitite is more normal and he appears calmer.
We’ll see. I like the idea that it is not a stimulant.
Good luck to you.

My 11 year old (ADHD-predominately inattentive) has been on Metadate CD for about a year. Prior to that, he was on Ritalin (2 times a day) with great sucess, but we wanted to get a longer lasting med for middle school. Concerta was a disaster for us.

Metadate CD contains the same ingrediant as Ritalin and Concerta (methylphenidate) but the time release capsule is formulated differently than Concerta. For my son, this particular drug/capsule works as well as Ritalin.

As always, different meds work differently in every kid!

Thanks for the information. Can you tell me what your son’s dosage is?

He currently takes 2 20 mg capsules each morning before school. This doesn’t last him thru homework, so sometimes if homework is heavy he takes 1 1/2 Ritalin after school.

thanks again. Thomas is only 20mg 1x in the AM. By the time he gets home from school I see no signs of the med. helping. A few of his teachers noticed a slight slight improvement but some noticed nothing at all. His dosage may be too small. I’ll have to talk about this when we go back on the 25th to the doctor.

thanks.
