Does anyone know of any activities or games that can be done with a child to increase attention span? We are looking for anything we can do outside of medicine to help train or lengthen the amount of time our child can attend to tasks. I’d appreciate any ideas that you might have!
Re: activities or games to increase attention
Chess is excellent. You really have to focus and think ahead. They have to be able to plan out what there next move might be as well as the other players.
A recent study of the Interactive Metronome program (a non-medication approach to treating ADHD) compared kids who received IM treatment and kids who played non-violent video games. The IM kids showed the most improvement, but the video game group also improved on several measures of attention. The kids who neither received IM nor played video games did not show improvement. So, if you are looking for activities or games to do at home, you might look into non-violent video and computer games. Just think how popular you’ll be with your child …
