Stratterra

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

First of all let me tell everyone, that I am a Dad. Not a single Dad, just a concerned Dad. My son has been diagnosed with ADD and as being on the low end of the Autistic spectrum. I love all the labels we put on our kids these days.
As anyone heard of Strattera being used on ADD? Or is it only prescribed for ADHD?
I do not understand why our children are having such a hard time these days? I think it has something to do with the lack of minor trace minerals in our soils. Sure we give vitamins and minerals, but I have yet to find a product that contains Chelated Trace Minor Minerals. I am going to start giving my son, Chelated Trace Minerals. I am in the Veterinary profession, and I have seen some remarkable changes in the attitude of problem horses and dogs.
I will let everyone know, how it goes. Please let me know, if Strattera is also used in ADD?
God Bless & Good Health, Ed

Ed,

My son is ADD also, but not HFA. We have been using strattera for about 2 1/2 months. It is very effective for his focusing issues. We’ve also seen a slight anti-depressant quality that was unexpected. We especially like it because of the non-addictive quality. There is no rebound effect when he misses a dose and no roller-coaster throughout the day.

HTH.

Gail, thanks for the information. Can you tell me if the dosage you were prescribed was the correct one? Or did you have to adjust it?
My son weighs 78 lbs and is 5 ft tall, but he is very sensitive to meds.

God Bless, Ed

My 8 yr old Daughter just started Strattera 1 wk ago - I’ve noticed better behaviour at home but terrible behaviour in sch. She hit a girl in the face on Wed and has been calling out during class and not staying on tast at all. Waiting it out the 30 days of pills to see if this changes…hoping for better ADHD treatment w/ this new drug. It just came out in Jan 03…our Psych has only be prescribing it for about 1 month now and just seeing his pts come back to tell him about it.

Some are saying no way too much stomach pain some are saying yeah it’s great, I’ll continue taking it.

Lauren also drinks SPARK drink mix - it’s a nutritional drink mix that has caffeine in it and it does help CALM her (even tho caff for us wires us!)….it’s sold by advocare.com.

Lauren also takes ZOLOFT for anti anxiety and it has helped tremendously.

Lauren takes 50 mg ZOLOFT per day in the morning
and 25 mg STRATTERA per day in the morning.

Loves :)

You might be interested in the work of the Pfeiffer Institute in Illinois. They treat children with trace minerals and also look into mineral toxicity and chelating. They also use essential fatty acids. The best resource for the is book by Dr. Jacqueline Stordy. You can get a feel for it at www.drstordy.com.

You might also want to go to www.equazen.com. They are a British company that makes Eye-Q, an essential fatty acid supplement. They have a lot of research references on their site including some information about EFAs and autism.
