I’m sorry for over-posting but I have so many questions. Does anyone know of any other message boards? I really like this one generally but sometimes I need an alternative. I think you know what I’m saying. Terry
Re: ADHD Websites
Terry,
I’m a part of a GREAT ADHD message board! Please join us. Go to www.ivillage.com and then click on ‘message boards.’ On this screen go to the left and click on ‘parentsoup.’ That will take you to a LARGE list of topics that have some great parents and there’s NEVER any bad-mouthing or negative talk. You can vent, ask questions, tell your joys, your sorrows, etc. and there’s always someone there who’s been in your shoes. I just love it. There’s a board for AD/HD children, Teens and Adults, Newly Diagnosed, as well as a variety of other topics. I’m usually at the AD/HD Teens and Adults board. Go there and read some of the posts and you’ll see it’s like a ‘family.’ Hope to see you there!
Ann
Re: ADHD Websites
There is ‘added support’ on msn groups, you have to register and I, as board manager, have the power of the ban and delete button. As of now there aren’t many teachers or longtime parents of adhd’ers as there are here, it’s a bit more informal. However, some of the problems I read about could use some of the expertise that abounds here. You can fix it where your email is hidden so no one can harass you. There is a general board, an adult board, a home/school board, a homeopathy board and a teen board that we just started. I and two other managers monitor the board on a daily basis. You would all be welcome and just so you know ball, I would ban you in a blink of an eye.
Best wishes.
Amy
Re: ADHD Websites
There is another one, healthboards.com. This board has a variety of conditions, one of which is ADD. There is an LD board too but it’s very small. The board is moderated and they edit and pull junk. You need a logon and a password, which is easy to get. If someone doesn’t behave, it’s also easily revoked. There is someone on the board, Mike24 from PA, which I suspect is Ball or it’s someone close enough that it’s his evil twin. It’s the usual drivel, but not the abusive disgusting stuff. Knowing who it is, you can scroll right on by. There is loads of info on Straterra, which is how I happened to find it.
Re: ADHD Websites
Nothing peronal Julie, but I and several others I know had experience with that board that I’d like to share. There is a large, underlying anitmed sentiment on ADHD Healthboards that made me uncomfortable. The moderators often suggested to me and others that we go over to the CHADD boards as we were trying to help people with med Q’s and concerns. This is a good board for some but not for all. There is no board there for just for parenting and often your posts get taken over by petty Addults arguing over even ADD’s existence. I was bother by people who didn’t even have kids posting rantings and babblings. It’s a favorite of some people, but not for everyone. It is true that there is a strong moderator presence there, but they are very overpowering and biased, from my experience. Ofcoarse everyone is free to decide for yourself, but I was bugged enough to leave and wanted to share why.
ADHD.com has about 10 ADHD boards JUST for parents. Very nice moderating, up to date boards (likehealthboards.com) and a great and huge group.
Re: ADHD Websites
Thanks for the info. I only found it last February and haven’t used it much except for Straterra questions when my son and I were starting out with it last Feb after it first hit the market. After that, it hasn’t been as useful for precisely the reasons you state.
I noticed the usual anti-med and denial of ADD’s existence but just clicked on by. Why anyone would post on a board for a condition they don’t think exists and that they obviously don’t know anything about except what they read in the papers? You gotta wonder what’s the story with these poeple.
I don’t have the luxury of debating if ADD or LDs exist. My son was diagnosed GT/ADD (inattentive/distractible)/LD (apraxia and dyslexia) 5 years ago. I’m satisfied that the diagnosis is accurate. I’m satisfied that he has had quality speech and occupational therapy and that the results to date are about as good as it’s going to get. I’m satisfied that we pay sufficient attention to his routine, diet, nutritional needs, etc.— more than you ever would with a normal child. Yet he still needs medication to function. Why read posts that would blame him or me for his condition being so severe? He didn’t ask for this any more than I did, but we’re both trying to make the best of a bad situation.
I appreciate the support of the people on this board, and welcome the opportunity to share anything I’ve learned along the way. It’s been an incredible journey so far.

Hi Terry,
Most sites have browser recognition, they can ban a person with the touch of a button. This site is a little more fundamental, but hey., thats part of its charm. The site I frequent is mostly just ADHD parenting, not much on LD. There is a good board at Schwab, a little snootier than I like, but very very informative on LDs and education. Here’s the Addy direct;
